Consistent

My New Year’s Goals and my “New Year of Life Goals” fall pretty close together since I was born in January :-)

So on my birthday, I’m thinking ahead to what I hope this year of my life will look like

(and yes, that was a shameless plug that TODAY is my BIRTHDAY!)

All over the blogosphere, folks are talking about a word for the year, and it’s AWESOME.

So I wanted to have a word for this 26th year.  I immediately started thinking of BIG, DREAMY words.  Words like: Soar, Flourish, Achieve, Magic, Create.

But it wasn’t until I heard another word that I found exactly what I was looking for:

Consistent.

Now, I am a planner, a thinking and a dreamer.  I am someone who sees “The Big Picture” but can’t always narrow down the steps to get there.

I’m also a starter, but not always a finisher.

So this year is about being Consistent (yes, with a capitol “C”).

I want to do what I say I will do, and do it in a short time frame.

I want to set goals that are small and realistic that will be a part of the bigger goals.

Here are a few examples of my small steps:
Give a definite plan to people (not “We can talk about it later”, but “I will call you tomorrow so we can make a plan).
Work out twice a week (not start a workout plan, do it for a week, then not work out for two months).
Read one book a month.
Get up early three mornings a week to spend time in prayer and Bible study.
Blog three times a week.

Now, those small steps may not really be my ultimate goals.  I would really like to workout three times a week, read my Bible every day, and read LOTS of books and blog everyday.  BUT, because if I set my goal to be higher and I miss it once, I will probably quit.  So I want to choose things that I can CONSISTENTLY do.  Then if I do it extra, AWESOME!

In what areas do you want to be more consistent?
