During the month of October I’m joining The Nester’s 31 Day Challenge and writing “31 Days to Building Community”. I’m passionate about building relationships and growing in community together. To see all the posts in the series click here.
I’m definitely guilty of the “we’ll do that soon” commitment, ya know meaning “whenever we get around to it”, which of course, we never do.
So let’s not wait to build community, we have to do it now!
And you know what? Now really isn’t always that hard. A few weeks ago a friend from church called me up on a Sunday afternoon and said “We would really like to have you guys over for dinner this week, is Wednesday good for you?” and Wednesday wasn’t good for us, so she asked if Monday would work and I said YES and it was THAT. SIMPLE.
But how many times have we told friends, “We would love to have you over for dinner sometime,” and they respond “Yes, let’s do that,” and then it never happens.
One of my goals for this year was to be consistent and make definite plans. So the challenge now is to just do it. Call that person that you have been planning to get together with. Ask them to come to dinner sometime in the next 5 days, or get together for coffee tomorrow or have a Skype call tonight.
And when someone else wants to make plans with you, say YES, accept the invitation now and make an immediate plan. Don’t wait, because “someday” never really comes around.
Are there things you have been planning to do or people you have intended to connect with? What’s keeping you from doing it right now?
