How I Use Pinterest

There have been countless articles and blog posts on how to use pinterest (many of which, you can probably find on Pinterest if you search for them…).  Since it’s such a great tool, with many different possibilities, I wanted to share how I use Pinterest in a way that’s useful to me.
1) I only check Pinterest occasionally – maybe once or twice a day, during the week – to see what people that I follow have pinned and if any of those things are useful to me.  I do have the Pinterest App on my phone, but I don’t check it when I hop out of bed in the morning, and I don’t get notifications on my phone or email.
2) I only have a few boards that I pin useful information too. Yes, there are a million pretty pictures on Pinterest that are fun to look at and look nice on your board, but if I don’t need them or won’t ever use them I let them pass on by.

3) I actually use the information I pin.

That’s it.  Seriously.

And specifically I pin things for:

Meal Planning
Planning/Organizing
Blogging
Sewing projects
Home Decorations

Pinterest can be really useful, but only if I use it in a way that is beneficial. For example, from my “What’s for Dinner Board” I have cooked about half of the meals I’ve pinned, and several of them I’ve cooked multiple times! So I really use the board to make it easy to click and see the ingredients I need or the instructions whenever and wherever.

Now that doesn’t mean I will ever use absolutely every pin I ever pin, but I do try to make sure I only pin something if I think there is a good chance I will make use of it.  And then when I need it, I don’t waste a bunch of time looking through other pins I know I will never use!

How do you use Pinterest?  Do you have a particular way of organizing your boards or finding useful information?  Do you pin a lot of things just for the fun of it (which is fine, by the way ;-) ) Please comment and leave your best tips and favorite way to use this awesome site!
